About Ubuhle

Melanie Prinsloo resides on the Vlakfontein Farm near Bronkhorstspruit and has been involved in various community development projects over the past 15 years. Melanie and Thoko started assisting orphan and vulnerable children and their extended families on the farms surrounding Bronkhorstspruit in June 2008.

They helped secure Identity Documents for caregivers and Birth Certificates for the children. This enables the caregivers to apply for Childcare Grants. While visiting the farm-workers households, the neglect of the children touched their hearts and the vision of an Early Childhood Development Centre was born.

Ten years ago the Department of Education built a small farm-school on Vlakfontein Farm. Providentially, they decided to close the School at the end of 2008, which then provided a perfect venue for the Early Development Centre, including a Preschool and After-school.

When the first Grade R children were promoted to Primary School in 2011, Melanie Prinsloo founded Ubuhle School as a project of Ubuhle Care and Development. In 2015 Ubuhle School registered as a separate Non-Profit entity and the name was changed to Ubuhle Christian School.
